The five Challengers (Ineos Britannia, Alinghi Red Bull Racing, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, NYYC American Magic, and Orient Express Racing) will face the Defender, Emirates Team New Zealand.
The French Maison will be responsible for creating the Louis Vuitton Cup trophy and two trunks for the latter and the 37th America’s Cup Barcelona. The trunks will be custom-made in the Louis Vuitton workshop in Asnières to transport two distinctive trophies: the Auld Mug, the silver ewer awarded to the winner of the America’s Cup since 1851 and considered the oldest international sports trophy in the world, and the Louis Vuitton competition, a trophy created by the Maison, which has been awarded to the winner of the competition since 1983.
The Challenger that wins the competition will be able to challenge the Defender, that is, the winner of the previous edition: Emirates Team New Zealand.
